🎥 How to Stop Participant Video (Except Speaker)

You can manage this in two ways — via Zoom Settings and during the meeting.

🧩 Option 1: Before the Meeting (Recommended)

This prevents participants from turning ON their video at all.

Steps:

  1. Go to 👉 https://zoom.us/signin

  2. Click Settings (left panel).

  3. Under In Meeting (Basic):

    • Turn OFF the toggle for
“Participants video – Start meetings with participants video on.”

  4. Now only the host (and co-host/speaker) can start with video ON.

  5. You can later manually allow video for specific participants (like your main speaker).

🎛️ Option 2: During the Meeting (Manual Control)

To Stop Participant Video:

  1. As Host, open the Participants panel.

  2. Hover over the participant name → click “More.”

  3. Select “Stop Video.”
→ This immediately turns off their camera.

  4. To prevent them from turning it back on:

    • Click the small Security Shield Icon on your meeting toolbar.

    • Uncheck ✅ “Allow participants to start video.”

Now only the host and co-host/speaker can turn on their cameras.

🎤 To Keep the Speaker’s Video On

  1. Make your speaker a Co-host or Spotlight them:

    • Click on their video thumbnail → “Spotlight for Everyone.”

    • Their video stays visible to everyone, even if others’ videos are off.

Tip: You can spotlight multiple speakers if needed (e.g., speaker + moderator).

🧠 Bonus Tip: Automatic Speaker Focus Mode

You can also use “Speaker View” for attendees:

  • Click View → Speaker View on the top-right.

  • Only the active speaker’s video appears large; others are hidden.
